Research Interview
During this exceptional opportunity to travel abroad to Mysore, India I interacted with various Physicians and attended lectures at Public Health Research Institute of India (PHRII). During my time abroad my research focus was on women's health, specifically Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer. In India cervical cancer is accounting to 1/3rd of the deaths globally. Women in India are only funded one pap smear in there life time from the government, with this health disparity women are put at risk for infection. PHRII has helped screened over 3000 women and performed 82 cancer prevention treatment procedures. I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Vijaya Srinivas, who is a research physician at PHRII, involved in the mobile clinics that screen women for HPV and cervical cancer for nine years.
